Freedom of Defense

U.S. Flag

America, the land of the free. Or should it be, America, the land of your free, just don’t defense yourself in public.

With the recent questionings on self defense has America turned into a free country that we are not permitted to defend ourselves in?

There have been several events recently that involve self defense or the right to self defense. First off we have the Zimmerman-Martin shooting. Then there’s the mass murder in Aurora, Colorado.

Florida

Florida has great laws for those that believe in America and the right to defend ourselves from the low lives in this country. In Florida you have the right to stand your ground and defend yourself if your being attacked. You do not have to run and hide like many other states. It is also legal to kill another individual during self defense if you have reason to believe they are going to cause you severe physical harm or death to you.

Zimmerman-Martin

In Florida George Zimmerman a member of his neighborhood watch, observed a suspicious individual in the area. He alerted police and attempted to keep an eye on the guy. From here the story gets fuzzy. According to some Zimmerman was attacked by a teenager named Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was on the ground being beaten, he pulled his pistol and fatally shot Martin. Zimmerman was legally carrying his pistol and if that is the way things happened he should be justified. That’s not the case in the land of the free. Zimmerman is being held in jail awaiting murder charges.

Self Defense

Not all areas are like the Florida streets. In private venues all across the United States individuals are disarmed and left defenseless daily. Most private establishments are allowed to ban personal firearms. Some of these locations are AppleBee’s, Aldi’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Cinemark Theaters just to name a few popular places. To view a more comprehensive list go to the Ohioians For Concealed Carry Do Not Patronize list. In most of these private places you will go to jail if you are caught with a concealed weapon.

Mass Murder

On Friday July 20, 2012 James Holmes, 24, entered the Batman movie premier in full body armor. Holmes then exited through a rear of the building and armed himself with an Ar-15, 12ga shotgun, two pistols, and tear gas canisters. Holmes returned to the theater and proceeded to murder 14 individuals, one was only 6 years old. Holmes also injured 70 unarmed and defenseless individuals.

Holmes was a smart man, he knew when he walked into that theater that he would be the only armed individual. Cinemark theaters, the owner of the theater in Aurora, has a strict policy against their patrons being able to defend themselves from an deranged individual like Holmes.

Changes

The anti-gun crowd loves situations like this. They try to use it as fuel for there fire. They will do everything they can to ban firearms because of the acts of this deranged individual. There are three laws already in place to prevent Holmes from committing that mass murdering. It is illegal to posses a firearm in a prohibited place like Cinemark theaters, Holmes did not care. It is illegal to posses and use tear gas, Holmes did not care. It is illegal to murder 14 others, Holmes did not care. I’m sure if you look further into it there were several other laws Holmes broke, he did not care about those either. Laws are only to punish people who break them. A law has never stopped a crime.
