Having a back-up is nearly critical in this day and time. We rely on so many critical items in our daily lives. When a disaster strikes we realize the need for those back-ups. Once we know what back-ups we need we have to act and get those measures in place.
Having a back-up to me is important in every aspect of life. I think if there is a chance it can fail you should have a backup for it. I do not have a back-up for everything I would like, but any start is better than none.
Your home and personal security should have back-ups. Some of these back-ups could be a spare firearm, solar powered motion lights, a generator, battery back-up power for your home, back-up power or communications for you security system or even a back-up home defense plan. These could all be possibilities of security related back-ups that could be needed.
Solar powered motion detector lights are a great investment for home security. They work when there is no power and easily alert you to someone, or something being outside your home. Having back-up power and communications in place for you home alarm system can also be great to have. This will give you peace of mind when the power is out, which may result in the phones being out too.
We rely on so many things to make our daily life go smooth. Everything from our alarm clock, microwave, stove, furnace, internet, phone, lights, and hot water help our day go by smoothly. Fortunately all of these systems can have a back-up if we provide it for ourselves. A simple alarm clock with battery back-up can get our day started off right, instead of late due to power failure. A gas or wood heat stove can keep us warm when the power fails. A battery system can power our internet, lighting and radio communications system in case of a power failure. Candles and a oil lamp can also provide us with light and heat in the event of a power failure.
For me I don’t have back-ups in place for most of those items. I do not need an alarm to get up, I am not bound to the internet, phones, or television. I already have wood heat, which allows me to cook also. I do have plenty of candles and oil lamps for the nights.
I am starting to realize I do need a better back-up for internet though. I am now at a point that I am starting to rely on internet for my business. Before internet was a luxury item. Now it is business critical. Without internet I can not upload posts, connect with my readers, research, or any other tasks that I normally do each day. I have always had the back-up plan of going somewhere with free wifi, but that may not always be an option (like today, I don’t want to go out in the snow just to upload a post).
Having a back-up and a back-up plan can make life so much easier. But always remember our country was built by a society that did not have the luxuries that we have today, and they did just fine.
