The best preparedness blogs out there
The need for First Aid Kits can arise whenever you are not sleeping. I guess in some cases you could need them while you are sleeping but that is pretty rare. If you are your loved ones are moving then a need can arise. Sometimes the simplest things may require first aid kits.
The one thing about stocking first aid kits is that you will use them and need to replenish the contents. I like to keep an inventory list and verify the inventory on a regular basis. Obviously if there was a major incident then you may want to review the contents after that.
If there is an major incident please use your judgement and contact 911 if needed. This is not medical advice and should not be construed as such. Please get some first aid training so you know how to handle incidents.
One of the typical incidents that are common is a laceration and bleeding. Obviously one of the first things is to stop the bleeding. There are several ways to accomplish that and in some cases may not be warranted. If you decide to close then I saw a great article about the different types from a qualified source that is a good review. The bottom line is most case require some sort of bandaid is needed to cover the laceration.
Another good case to make sure your first aid kits are supplied for is a broken bone. You may need to splint it until you can seek medical treatment. There are many different things you can use and you should be familiar with the basics. I wish I could remember what the Military calls the splint material in the picture below. It truly is a wonder material.
The last thing that you should always have in your first aid kits are disinfectants and sterilization materials. It does you know good to treat the wounds or broken digits if the area is not sterile and you can ward off the risk of infection. Heavy doses of Beta-dyne can be used liberally to make sure that conditions are as good as they can be.
The ideal condition is to never have to use your first aid kits. I hope you get your training and preparations done in case the need arises. It is your duty for your loved ones.
