Tactical flashlights are becoming more popular each and every day. Today we will discuss wether they are practical or just tactical.
Tactical flashlights are cool, but what else? Will just any flashlight work or do I have to have a tactical flashlight?
Tactical flashlights is a term to describe a multifunctional flashlight that generally has a serated head for self defense. Most tactical flashlights have a strobe, S.O.S., and constant on feature. They have high powered L.E.D. bulbs that last far longer than traditional bulbs and provide a much higher light output while somehow using less power than traditional flashlights. Some tactical flashlights run on standard batteries, some use special batteries like CR123. Tactical flashlights are made by several companies, some of the top ones are Stream Light, Sure Fire, Insight, 5.11, and Fenix.
Normal non tactical flashlights are you every day flashlights that you find in most stores. Some of these lights are L.E.D. and some are not. These flashlights are cheap and easy to find. They have one feature constant on, no thrills, no special features. Most run on AA, AAA, or D sized batteries. These normal flashlights are made by companies like Energizer, Rayovac, Maglite, and Duracell.
When deciding between a tactical flashlight and a general purpose flashlight you must decide which suits you best. Some features are nice to have, I like the small size and the brightness of most tactical lights. Most people have limited space in their pockets and a small light is more likely to be carried. The ability to use common batteries (AA, AAA) is a plus too.
I have an ipt c7 (no longer produced) that I carry with me daily. I also have an insight hx 150 (also discontinued) that I keep in my tib. There is nothing like the brightness of the insight flashlights. I prefer the tactical lights due to their strobe function. The strobe feature can temporarily blind an assailant giving you the upper hand for a second.
